One if the simplest lessons I learned came about 20 years ago from a Friend and Coworker by the name of Johny Di Iorio.
We were talking about the usual frustrations of living the Retail life and he simply stated to me:
👉 Cary, everyone has a choice.
The Customer came in ready to take you down due to the product being defective…that was their choice to react that way.
It is now your choice as to how you want to handle the situation.
An employee comes in to work in a crappy mood, it is now your choice to accept it or send them home.
Our destinies are in our hands.
Don’t be afraid to stand by your convictions, but please ensure the choice you made is rational, not based on emotions and of course not vengeful (who would do that🤔).
Before your choice is made:
👉Breathe.
👉Think.
👉Exhale.
👉Repeat.
Then stand by your decision. If it ends up not being the right one, learn a lesson and move on.
If you are unsure what the “right choice” should have been, ask for help, a lifeline, or call a friend.
