The Exodus. Not from the Bible.

πŸ₯Έ This post may not get me the popular vote.

I am tired of hearing about the #Retail exodus from #Employees but blaming instead the company that they work for.

πŸ‘‰ If you are working in #Retail and think that the grass is greener on the other side….well I have a surprise for you…it isn’t.

I completely understand the importance of πŸ’Έ a good salary with today’s inflation, but doesn’t having a job that offers you some form of stability and a consistent pay cheque mean anything now a days?

I have always said that retail needs to offer the following foundational needs:

πŸ‘‰ A salary.
πŸ‘‰ A safe working environment.
πŸ‘‰ A place free of harrassment of any form.

Point #2 and #3 are non negotiable and if they are not in place this needs to be brought up immediately.

If nothing has changed then I agree with you that looking for another job is the right thing to do.

It is quite evident if these two items are not priority than their overall #culture is f*cked up.

πŸ€” Reminder.

If you are not happy where you are then start looking for a job while you have job, as you are not a tree and can move your roots.

Also, if you have been working for your employer awhile, then you have some form of stability.

…but if you quit and move onto another career, your stability has restarted at zero.

Are you secure with that?

Retail is one of the few #careers that you can definately work your way up the ladder and earn a πŸ€‘ six figure salary.

I have climbed that mountain and have learned a TON of skills that no school would have taught me.

So…

Instead of continuing to ramble I will stop here by saying.

πŸ‘€ Look, around you and you may notice that you are lucky to have a job.

πŸ‘‚ Listen, to yourself and not what you see out there. if you like what you are doing than there is no reason to leave.

  1. I agree with your points, but number 2 and 3 are not very good in many retail jobs. I have been in retail for 20plus years and have worked for both kinds, no amount of $$ makes up for a company to allow abuse, etc. I have had direct experience with this working for a very large North American retailer that says crap happens. Deal with it. I left for less money but #2 and #3 on your list are very strong where i am now.

    1. Thank you Robert for taking your time to respond. Yup, I have been in your situation and refuse to repeat it with my teams. It’s unfortunate that these things continue to happen, but as long as a lesson was learned then it may have been worth it. And I’m very happy to read about where you are working now.
