A thought popped into my head while I was in the hospital.
Isn’t the Mr.Potato Head just like our #Leadership role in #Retail.
Answer: Yes it is.
As we get to build Mr. or Mrs..Potato Head, I realized that these body parts actually are used in our daily retail life as a Manager, Coach, Leader or whatever you want to call yourself.
👉 The Potato Body: Well is just us.
👉 The Eyes: Allows you to see through different lenses based on circumstances. Is the store well merchandised, clean, signage in place, smiles on the Teams faces. Are Employees scurrying like cockroaches to avoid you? Oy…now that’s a sign of trouble.
👉 The Ears: Allows you to hear what is going on, and actually what is not happening. Listening to the silence is recommended as it will expose opportunities. Are Employees talking to you? What are they saying.
👉 The Nose: Allows you to smell the atmosphere. Huh? does the store smell clean? Does is look clean. How does the bathroom look? This is a key indicator as to if the team is functional.
👉 The Shoes: Is the dress code policy being respected? Are name tags being worn? BIG sign of trouble is if the Leadership of the store shoes are dirty and worn out. Clean and polished worn shoes are a GOOD sign as it shows that the Leadership Team is on the floor. If the shoes look too new then there maybe a problem. Use your Spidey Senses.
👉 The Arms: Are the Associates reaching out to you during the visit or are they avoiding you like the plague …..and so on. What are your thoughts? What are your experiences?
