As Retail Leaders we are responsible to Manage and Coach our stores to the best of our abilities and sometimes our decisions may not be popular.
So the question that needs to be asked is – Why do we feel the need to be “liked” as a Leader, Coach or Manager.
Is it because we believe that if you hurt an Employees feelings or ego they will just get up and go?
Well, you know what….that’s life, and no need to feel sorry for hurting someones outershell as long as you did it with purpose, and in a meaningful and respectful way with the intention to bring out the Best of your Team and it’s Individuals.
We are in place as Leaders to ensure the Retail machine is well oiled and that all the components are running like clockwork. If they aren’t, then there is a problem, and the problem may be with you not giving consistent and structured feedback.
Giving feedback, a corrective action or going against the popular decision may not place in you in line for a Gold Medal with your Team or win a Popularity Contest but it will keep your ship steering in the right direction.
